SUMMARY

Assisted migration is one of the mean
operational techniques to the native forest species adaptation to climate
change. An assisted migration model is usually oriented to safeguard the species
adaptive potential by planting new areas, not only within the species natural
distribution area but also out of it. That way, the assisted migration allows recovering
the lost connection between the species habitat and its climate because of the
climate change.

 To
understand the assisted migration technique, a brief review on the adaptive
genetic variation, mean species adaptation way, on an action model and on the
assisted migration modalities. There are also discussed the main myths delaying
the different assisted migration options to apply.

The success of this new conservation paradigm
depends on quantitative information availability to determine the better adaptive
strategy and this is the reason why it is recommended ideally to get adaptive
genetic from provenance-progeny trials.
